Patience
Subsumed in the river of time,
I move from day to day to day.
Often battered by rock and shoal,
when minutes creep and crawl,
and Dread, that silent mummer,
freezes heart and soul.
Then at times, the river sweeps ahead,
deep and fast, smooth sailing.
That's when Hope, my old friend,
done up in a guise of good news,
brings light and cool comfort,
and rumors of health on the mend.
Thus I travel life's stream,
by water now laggard, now hasty.
Yet mindful of what must be,
the river endures, in a timeless way,
intent upon its distant goal,
of sunlit sand and open sea.
